For the 13th year Daryl Flood Houston Movers has teamed up with Prudential and Fiesta Mart to provide much-needed bag lunches to the 5th Ward Enrichment Program – some of the neediest children in the State of Texas. For most of us, hunger is just a signal to head to the refrigerator or a favorite restaurant, but for 800,000 people in Southeast Texas the reality is much harsher. They are the “food insecure”, the hungry. The Fifth Ward Enrichment Program (FWEP) of Houston, Texas is a local private nonprofit agency addressing the problem of poverty and the many negative consequences of marginalization, including hunger, in Houston’s fifth ward. The lead program for FWEP’s hunger initiative is “Lunch: It’s in the bag!” Along with Prudential and Fiesta Fiesta Mart, Daryl Flood Houston, in partnership with FWEP, has delivered over 3,500 lunches to the children of Houston’s Fifth Ward through this important program. The “Lunch: It’s in the bag!” program is in its 13th year and continues to grow each year.
The Fifth Ward Enrichment Program, Inc. empowers inner city, at-risk boys, ages 12 – 19, to become responsible men and productive members of their families and community. FWEP is a community-based, school-housed primary prevention program. FWEP has served more than 2,300 disadvantaged families, 3,800 school-aged youths, and 275 young fathers through six program components and related support services.
