Avoid Peak Season! Save Money on Moving this Winter
For most people, moving during the winter is not an option. Young families with children find it difficult to move during the school year. While the cold temperatures and chance of bad weather, cause the elderly to stay put. However, if you’re able to move during the winter, you can expect great savings.
Depending on the services needed, you can save a considerable amount of money by moving during the non-peak times of the year. As the moving industries’ peak season runs from May 15 through September 15, you can save 10-20% on total moving costs when scheduling a move in late Fall to early Spring. Keep in mind that most people move in the beginning or the end of the month. So, if you have the flexibility, moving during the middle of the month may be a better choice for you.
Less demand for our trucks in the winter months means that we can better accommodate your moving demands –offering a more flexible schedule in pick-up and delivery dates.
Planning for a move well in advance can also save you money. On an interstate move, we can lock in a customer’s quote up to 180 days out. What does this mean for you? Well, if you’re planning to move in June, it would cost you less to book in February or March, instead of waiting until May (when prices begin to increase for peak season).
House-hunting during the winter, is also less competitive. With fewer buyers seeking new homes, home prices are generally lower than in the spring and summer months. With fewer prospects to sell to, realtors can give you more attention and are more willing to negotiate on price, closing dates and other fees. In the winter, you have a better chance at getting a home you want with less competition and saturation in the marketplace.
In all, if you’re willing to move during the winter, your relocation expenses and realtor fees could be cut drastically, keeping more money in your wallet.
